Shimmering Snowmen - the craft room

I signed up back at the beginning of the year to help out with my daughter's Christmas party, little did I know I would be starting a blog at the same time.  Now consider the fact that I must come up with a craft project for a class of fourth grader's.  Yep, full plate!  Now there are tons of ideas out there, from the sleigh made with candy canes, or the reindeer, that's really cute too.  Or there are the snowflakes you can make out of Popsicle sticks, felt, or even the cute ones made from paper all twirled up.  Love them all, but I wanted something different.  Oh and then there is this little added factor called budget.  What are the options with a $1 budget....for fourth grader's, both boys and girls mind you?  Hmmm, a craft idea that doesn't find its way into the trashcan the minute after they walk through their front door!

Some of the credit goes to a friend, she did this years ago with her daughter, but I like to think I "jazzed" it up a little.  I often say some of my best ideas are borrowed ideas, in some aspect or another!  Adapted, I call it.  I had never seen the glitter snowman and knew that would be the perfect craft for them when she described it to me.  Mr. Shimmering Snowman even came in at less than the $1 budget per student.  Problem solved, thanks Carrianne, you are awesome!

Today I will be making this chummy little guy with my daughter's class, I'll let you know how it goes afterwards.  I sure hope they are as excited as I am!  You never can tell at this age, but either way I think Mr. Shimmering Snowman is great!

If your kids come to you bored over winter break then Mr. Shimmering Snowman could be your solution, so let's get started...

More than likely you already have everything you need.  The supplies are: A water bottle; Vegetable Oil; Glitter; and Food Coloring.  Everything after that is for embellishment.

I removed about a fourth of the water and added 1/2 a cup of the Vegetable Oil, one teaspoon of silver glitter, and one drop of blue food coloring.  More than one drop of food coloring makes the water to dark.

Put the cap on, and decorate.  Wasn't that easy?  I would love to know if Mister Shimmering Snowman makes an appearance at your house too, so make sure you leave a comment!

Thanks for dropping by today!
