I said I would share my clay project with you yesterday, so here it is! Earrings and a necklace for my sweet little girl. If only I didn't have to wait until Valentine's Day to give these to her, she's going to be so thrilled. She got her ears pierced when she turned 9 back in August. Up until now, she has only had earrings the size of a pencil eraser. I wasn't ready for her to have anything bigger, even though she gravitates towards them in the store. When she realizes she is getting "dangling" earrings, I know she'll be grinning from ear to ear!
Let me show you how I made them. You still have time to make some for your little fashionista too!
Materials:
Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
Sculpey Polymer Clay
Crafting Foils
Heart Shape Cutter
Earring Loops
Necklace Chain
This is a relatively inexpensive project. I took a picture with several different colors of clay. In the end, I only used 1/4 of the pink polymer clay.
The hardest part of this project is getting the foil burnished onto the polymer clay. I had to play around with it a few times to get it just right.
Once the hearts were cut out, wire was used to make a loop. Then I placed a second heart over the wire to hide it. Next, a thin strip from the burnished polymer clay was placed around the edge of the heart to hide the seam. Finally, the clay was baked for about 8 minutes to harden it.
Then it was time to add the Dimensional Magic. The directions said to wait three hours. However, I added a second coat to make sure I covered the edges well. So, it took a little longer to dry.
I have to say, after putting this together, I admire people that do this for a living. It is very tedious work. Small little rings, and my less than perfect vision made it a challenge but in the end I am happy with the way they turned out. Confirmation will be that grin I mentioned above!
